Welcome!

Confident in English is a group of very experienced professionals, offering high quality personalised services in English language and Anglophone business culture.  Our high energy levels, coupled with a genuine commitment to helping those we work with achieve their personal goals, mean we can really make a difference – fast.

Based in Rome, we work principally with Italian business people and professionals between the ages of 25 and 50 who already have a good or very good command of English.  People come to us because they find that they need a higher level of fluency and confidence in English in order to succeed in their present job or to find a new job.  We work with individuals and also with companies.

We have a mix of academic and business backgrounds, premier qualifications and blue-chip business experience:  Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, University of London, Max Planck Institute, London Business School, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the UN.

We offer personal tailored programmes, coaching people on an individual or small group basis - often building long-term working relations.

Most of the people we work with already have good or very good English.  What we do is give them the confidence to use English to their best advantage.

We place a real emphasis on developing practical skills, chosen to suit individual and small group needs.  Related activities may therefore include any of the following:

  • Having a business conversation on the telephone in English with an Anglophone (often one of the most demanding activities, both because of the absence of body language and because of sometimes subtle cultural differences)
  • Handling social situations with Anglophone colleagues, including ‘doing small talk’
  • Making a business presentation (with or without PowerPoint), including sales pitches
  • Understanding – at a fundamental cultural level – how business gets done (and doesn’t get done) in Anglophone societies, including the pace, timing, conduct and purpose of meetings and other key business exchanges
  • Reading key signals in meetings
  • Negotiating
  • Writing emails, letters and reports in English.

Our work with you will:

  • Give you a new level of linguistic confidence
  • Help you understand a different style of body language
  • Give you an understanding of a different business culture – one in which you need to succeed
  • Help you more generally to develop your cultural intelligence (CI), approvingly described by the Economist newspaper in a recent 2010 article as a 'trendy management idea for the age of globalisation'.
